An Introduction to Japanese Cuisine
Sushi is known as the archetypal Japanese food because of its rise in popularity in many cities and countries outside Japan. It's true that sushi is unique to Japan but I don't think that it's actually representative of Japanese food because it's not something we eat at home every day. Instead, it is reserved for special occasions when we enjoy a variety of sushi rolls wrapped in seaweed with various fillings.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that cooking and eating Japanese food will become popular in many countries.
One day I thought "Wait a minute, there must be a lot of Japanese recipes that non-Japanese people could cook easily at home (and would enjoy eating!). I can't wait to tell people about them" and started thinking of what would be suitable. I soon realised, however, that there are many Japanese recipes that don't seem to be completely authentic although they're very common in Japan today. The Japanese have a reputation for being good imitators and we have adopted various dishes and combined them with Japanese food. This could be because of our flexible and enthusiastic attitude towards foreign food although equally you could say that we are just greedy!
I am sure that most people would find Japanese cuisine easier to get to grips with than they expect. I hope that my recipes enable as many people as possible to cook and enjoy Japanese food.
